The Oura Ring is sold as a one-time purchase, but most of what it measures is behind a recurring Oura membership. People usually find that out after buying. This guide explains, using Oura’s own support page, exactly what the ring still does if you cancel the membership, what you lose, and what the membership adds up to over three years.
What the Oura membership costs
In the United States the membership is $5.99 a month or $69.99 a year. In the European Union Oura lists 5.99 euros a month or 69.99 euros a year, and other regions are priced differently. New members get one month included. The membership belongs to your Oura account, not to a specific ring.
It is required for the Gen3 and newer rings. Oura’s support page says Gen2 owners do not need a membership and will not be charged for one.
Over three years that is $209.97 on the annual plan, or $215.64 if you pay monthly. Add that to the price of the ring when you compare it with other wearables.
What you keep without a membership
According to Oura, without an active membership you can still see:
- Your three daily scores: Readiness, Activity and Sleep
- The ring’s battery level
- Your basic profile information and app settings
- The Explore content in the app
Your data is not deleted when you cancel. If you do not delete your account, Oura says your data and account information stay saved, and everything comes back once you re-enroll.
What you lose
Oura’s list of membership features includes detailed sleep analysis, 24/7 heart rate tracking, advanced temperature monitoring, SpO2, daytime stress, heart health metrics, metabolic health features, Oura Labs, Resilience, periodic reports and women’s health insights. The membership page also lists the Oura Advisor, the company’s AI health companion.
You also lose access to the Oura API. You can still download your personal data through the Membership Hub, so cancelling does not trap your history.
In short, the ring keeps giving you the headline scores, but the detail behind them, the trends and the extra features need the membership.
How cancelling and refunds work
If you cancel a monthly or annual plan after your included first month, Oura says you keep access until the end of the billing period you already paid for. Its support page also says partial refunds are not available for cancelled prepaid or annual plans after the included month ends.
That makes the timing worth planning: if you are going to cancel, do it close to the renewal date, not right after it. Third-party guides also report that there is no pause option, but we only found that on secondary sites, so check the Oura app for the current options.
Who should keep it, and who should not
- Keep it if you read the sleep, stress or temperature details regularly and change habits because of them. That is what the membership pays for.
- Consider cancelling if you only glance at the three daily scores. The free tier already shows those.
- Think twice before buying if you want every feature without a monthly fee. Several other rings say they have no subscription. We compare them in our guide to smart rings with no subscription.
